I would like to share with you a revelation that was life changing to me.  It is the appearance of El Qanna – Jealous God in the account of Jesus’ wilderness experience found in Matthew 4.  I pray it is life changing to you too.
As Jesus was being challenged by the devil emotionally, relationally, physically and professionally, He responded simply with the sword of the Spirit, Scripture.  However, with the last lure (all these I will give You if You will fall down and worship me,) Jesus’ tone changes and He zealously says, “AWAY WITH YOU SATAN!” (Verse 10)
Psalm 24:1 teaches us that, “The earth is the Lord’s and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therin… [already belong to Him].”  So why this type of a response from Jesus?
Jesus’ passionate response reveals what is most passionate to God…worship.  Everything already is the Lord’s, what He desires is our love.
“For you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.”(Exodus 34:14)    The bible records many names for God and each name reveals another element of His personality.  One of His names is El Qanna meaning:

     Jealous (Qanna)  God (El) – Strong’s # 7067.
The Hebrew word used to translate “Jealousy” is Qan-na.  When you study a language it is fascinating to see what words individuals choose words to explain what it means.  I like how Wikipedia said it, “Jealousy typically refers to the negative thoughts and feelings of insecurity, fear, and anxiety that occur when a person believes an item of value (such as a relationship or skill) is being threatened (such as by a rival or by others’ different skill set.) While jealousy and envy are similar, they different, jealousy is about something one has and is afraid of losing, while envy is about something one doesn’t not have and either wants to acquire or to prevent another from getting.”
This is a pretty accurate word picture to the Biblical meaning of the word.  The central meaning of the Hebrew word qanna is related to jealousy especially in the marriage relationship.
God is depicted as Israel’s husband and by marriage the “two become one flesh.” (Gen. 2:24)  Because of this union adultery is then a severing of the body.  Leviticus 20:10 tells us that adultery is punishable by death.  I mention that because sin is a metaphor for spiritual adultery and like adultery, sin is punishable by death.
The grave doesn’t give up easily; however, the love of God won when Jesus Christ rose from the dead conquering the grave.  HalleluYah. Song of Solomon 8:6 speaks of this love saying, “For love is as strong as death, Jealousy as cruel as the grave; Its flames are flames of fire, a most vehement flame.”  (Song of Solomon 8:6)
A most vehement flame is the Flame of Love that has been burning in the heart of God since the beginning of time.  This is our El Qanna.  “For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.” (Deuteronomy 4:24)
El Qanna (Jealous God) can be understood as a God that watches over us lovingly, faithfully, and passionately, as a bridegroom watches over His beloved bride to be.
The jealousy of God is the passion of Christ.  “Christ” means anointed.  Jesus Christ was anointed to watch over the passion of God and break the curse of sin which is death.  The passion of the Christ is that God loves us to much to be without us.
The Lord is having me write on this subject because so many of us have a hard time comprehending love without conditions or strings attached.  Many look at the Cross and wonder what they can do to repay Him for all He has done.
This mentality has plagued me for many years.  The truth is that Jesus didn’t have to do it.  He went to the Cross because He wanted to.  He went because Jealous Love burned in Him.  Responding to this love is not done in an effort to pay Him back, it is a motion that comes naturally as we see from this perspective.
As we understand the breadth, length, height, and depth of this love our heart is set on fire by the Jealous Flame of the Lord.  His passion ignites ours sending fuel to our limbs empowering us to pick up our cross and to follow Him.
I am undone.  Tears run down my face my heart sings words that remain unspoken.
Beloved, this raw emotion that flow from the heart it is the most innocent and pure expression possible and what He is craves…it is worship.  As our heart swells with raw emotion, El Qanna smiles.  Selah.

This passion is also the passion that drove the apostle Paul and it is the same passion that drives me.  Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 11:2, “I am jealous for you with godly jealousy.  For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

Weightloss Diaries 5

What a week! This morning I weighed 84.2kg and on Wednesday September 6 I weighed 84kg.
I’ll blame it on Egusi soup and Samvita. The week had a few rough patches. The major lowlight was that I cracked my phone. Being that its expensive to fix, I’m trying to decide between fixing it and getting a new phone. I haven’t been able to do my youtube video updates because the video quality of the phone I’m currently using is wack! Will get back to that when I sort my phone issue out.

Back to my weightloss journey, on one of the days when I was trying to be overzealous, I ate so little for lunch and hoping it would be my last meal for the day.  I didn’t realise I was setting myself up for failure. At about 7pm I got so hungry and couldn’t resist eating Egusi and Samvita. I know I could have gone for something lighter but the fact that I hadn’t eaten any of the soup after I made it, combined with my hunger, I went for it. That singular act at that time of the day threw me back almost a whole kg. I spent the next few days afterwards trying to drop weight I had already lost. On another day, I experimented eating samvita (its not part of my planned diet so it will be a while before I indulge again) at about 3pm and nothing else afterwards. The next day, I lost weight.

So, lesson learned is that:

  1. The time of day you eat is directly proportional to your weight loss or weight gain.
  2. Eat a good breakfast and a good lunch and you are more likely to easily skip dinner.

I also downloaded an app that I just started using. I think its amazing given how much I sweat for a 10-15mins workout. Its called Loose weight in 30days and you can download it on Google Play. It also has a diet plan. I have my own diet plan so I am not following theirs. I know this week will be a really good week. Excited Much.

Weightloss Diaries 4

I was stepping out of the car this evening and my phone dropped off my legs and fell on the concrete floor. I am very upset. My screen is affected and its flashing seriously. There are lines across it. We’ve called to find out how much the screen replacement is and its not cheap. I decided to quickly write my post incase it gets blank before i’m actually ready. I’ve even prayed to God to fix it for me. I don’t want to have to deal with this right now.

Anyway, onto my journey. Today i weigh 84kg. On Sunday 3rd i weighed 84.3kg. Today was a close relatives birthday and we went to have lunch. I may have overeaten. Although i had salad, it had alot of cheese on it. I also had butterfly prawns and i know it has breadcrumbs frosting. As a result, i can’t afford to not go walking this evening. I would really like to stay home because right after now i have to cook and i’m still upset about my phone. But i guess its at times like this that you have to find that inner strength and do what feels uncomfortable.

I can’t believe i’ve even written this much with this light flashing in my eyes. I literally had to put on my sunglasses.

Anyway, let me run to the kitchen. I’ll update you on my phone and weight again on Sunday 10th. Take care.

Weightloss Diaries 3

This week was a good week. I definitely did not do my best and yet i lost 2.3kg. What if i put in my best? We’ll see.

This week i had mainly beans, coleslaw, vegetable leaves (ugu), chicken, fish, sausage, pear (ube) and alot of eggs. I however found myself eating up until 7:30/8pm. I recently found out that calories consumed close to bedtime no matter how healthy, cause weight gain.

I try to eat the right amount. I make sure i’m not feeling hungry at any point in time. However, at night even though i’m not hungry, i find myself looking forward to the next morning so i can have my breakfast (smiles).

This week i’ll try and have my last meal for the day before 6pm. Lets see how it contributes to my weightloss.

Thanks for reading. If you have any comments or tips, please do drop them. Please watch my video update on youtube. Use the link below. Have a great week ahead.

Weightloss Diaries 2

Its been two days since i started my weightloss journey. Today i weighed 85.7kg, a 0.9kg drop from my weight 2 days ago. I have had a couple of temptations but they have been pretty easy to overcome. These two days have been easy, probably because i have been eating mostly proteins and vegetables to my satisfaction. Today i had beans. I hear beans has some carbs. My weight tomorrow morning will tell me if i should or should not exclude beans from my diet.

I haven’t been doing my walks, partly because its been raining and because i’ve been busy especially in the evenings when i prefer to walk. I’ve read that its better to walk in the mornings to kick-start your metabolism for the day, but i’m yet to develop the morning walks habit. If i can hit the 83kg range by Sunday i will be over the moon. Watch out for my next post to see how i do.
